Career Advice Straight from the Real-World (and My Life)

Hi, I’m Christy Noel and I am thrilled to meet you! I am a career expert, marketing executive, nonprofit fundraising strategist, foster dog mom, and seven-time IRONMAN® triathlon finisher.

I worked my way up the corporate ladder primarily in business-to-business tech companies and a few startups. Along the way I held positions I loved and at least one I hated. I worked for a few great bosses and several who were, let’s just say, not-so-good. I’ve been a part of outstanding teams and some that could have used a wee bit more leadership, guidance, and business acumen. I have also managed team members who were smart, but green, and could benefit from a little career mentorship and advice.

What I didn’t find in my career journey were the tools to help navigate the real-life career situations I was experiencing and witnessing. I didn’t have mentors that had been through the situations I was in, and therefore, I found myself learning “on the job,” literally. I realized I could help others by sharing my own experiences of life, lessons, learnings, and even laughs, in the corporate world.

So, that’s my goal. To spare you the steep learning curve and bumps I encountered in my career. Whatever stage of your career, I help you find a new job, plan for what’s next, and establish a rewarding career through my blog, videos and books. Think of me as your virtual mentor to help you get hired, get ahead and build a rewarding career.

Mike Noel’s Story

Mike Noel is my father. He is also the former Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Edison International and Southern California Edison companies, corporations where he spent more than 30 years in various financial, management and executive positions.

After retiring from the Edison companies, Mike established Noel Consulting Co., advising companies and public utilities’ commissions on corporate finance. He also served on ten boards of directors.

Mike was a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and a named “Audit Committee Financial Expert” under the federal government’s Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

He co-founded The Academy of Business Leadership, a non-profit organization of business leaders teaching business, finance and investments to disadvantaged teenagers, for which Mike was awarded the Academy’s “Outstanding Leadership” award.

Your Personal Career Coach is the brainchild of Dad. He was the first in his family to seek a college education and had little experience or understanding of how businesses operate. He had to absorb hard-earned and valuable lessons on the job and wanted to spare others the long and steep learning curve he experienced. During the journey of writing and publishing Your Personal Career Coach, Dad and I were surprised and pleased when people we knew felt so excited about the project they asked if they could contribute some of their own real-life stories.
