Eight Simple Tips to Get Promoted

“Your Personal Career Coach” Author Shares Tips for Career Success in 2020

Carlsbad, CA, January 29, 2020 – New year, new start, new success. Are you ready to make this your year to get ahead in your career? Christy Noel, an award-winning marketing executive and co-author of Your Personal Career Coach. Real World Experiences for Early Career Success, has some practical tips to help.

“If you’re looking to get promoted, boost your career, succeed in a new job, or simply be acknowledged for the work you’re doing, there are things you should be doing to stand out and get noticed”, says Noel. “Simply doing great work is not enough to get you recognized and rewarded in today’s workplace. But with a little bit of effort, you can change that.”

Here are some of Noel’s tips to incorporate into your weekly work routine that will show your boss you’re a superstar and get that promotion: .

Know Your Boss’s Priorities

At your one-on-one meetings, ask your boss what his or her biggest priority is for the week/month and what you can do to help achieve it. Ask your boss if your priorities are aligned with his/her and if there’s anything you are missing. If your boss has different priorities than you, adjust yours to meet his or hers! If you work to make your boss look good and achieve his or her goals, you will be positively recognized and ultimately achieve your own success.

Volunteer for Projects

If your boss ever asks for volunteers to work on a new or existing project, be sure to say “Yes”  for everything! Volunteer even if you are not sure you are qualified. Say “Yes” now and learn later. Ask to take on additional projects when you can. Be careful not to take on so much responsibility you are unable to deliver quality work. However, volunteering for more demonstrates you are willing to take on added responsibility and are a committed team member (and you’ll learn a lot and meet new people in the process!).

Recap Your Week

On Friday afternoon, send a brief email to your boss summarizing what you accomplished for the week. If there are measurable metrics associated with the projects (number of sales, calls, leads, agreements reviewed, open rates, checks processed, etc.), be sure to include them. Set up the following week by listing the top projects you’ll be focused on.

“Today’s professional doesn’t have to be passive and wait for an annual performance review to be recognized and rewarded. I encourage everyone to be proactive in their career success by adopting behaviors and habits that will compel their boss to take notice,” added Noel.
