17 Mar 3 Ways to Research The Company Before Your Job Interview
You know it’s important to do research on the company before a job interview, right?
I really learned how important it is to research a company before a job interview the one time I didn’t do it. I was a bit lost in the conversation when my interviewer was talking about the future of the company. Not a good feeling!
On top of that, I’m embarrassed to admit that I knew so little about the company, the questions I asked were not very impressive. I’m sure it was apparent I was not well informed about the company. 🤦♀️
So let me help you avoid repeating that awkward and unsuccessful interview!
When you are preparing for a job interview, here are my three steps to research the company:
TIP 1: Use LinkedIn to learn about who will be interviewing you.
Get a feel for their roles and responsibilities at the company. How long have they been there? Where did they work before?
While on LinkedIn, also look up the company. What have they posted recently? Are they sharing about their employees? Customers? Products? Are they hosting webinars or posting white papers that establish themselves as thought leaders and provide great research material for you?
TIP 2: Google the company name and click on the News tab.
Have they issued press releases lately? Have they had a recent product launch? Management changes? Any mergers and acquisitions? Are they in the news for the wrong reasons? All good information to know before the interview!
Tip 3: Check out the company’s Facebook and/or Instagram page to get a feel for the company culture.
Do they spotlight their employees? Do they show what they do for fun? Give an inside peek into office life? What can you learn from it that will shed light if it is a place you may be comfortable with?
The information you uncover in this research should enable you to put together a list of thoughtful questions to ask about the direction, growth, goals, and culture of the company. You’ll demonstrate to your interviewers you are interested and educated on the company. Best of all, you’ll learn more to know if the company is going to be a fit for you!
Any other aspects of the company you research before an interview? I would love to hear them!
Best of luck in your research, interview prep, and the interviews themselves! Let me know how they go!
